Islam is not a new religion, but the same truth that God revealed through all His prophets to every people. Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness because it is absolute submission to the One True God, Allah (All praises belong to Him).

The word 'Islam' is Arabic means 'submission'. In religious terms 'Islam' is understood as complete and absolute submission to the will of God (Allah). To name this religion as 'Mohammedanism' is incorrect because it implies that Muslims worship Muhammad (peace be upon him) rather than Allah (Arabic name for God).

The Qur'an, is the last revealed Words of Allah, it is the main source of every Muslim's belief and practise. The Qur'an provides complete and absolute solutions for all of mankind's needs, such as Doctrine, Belief, Worship, Economics and Laws. This book teaches how to establish relationship with God, and how to organise and establish a just society.

Unlike other religious books Qur'an is free from any defection and are the exact words revealed by Allah through the Angel Gibrail to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It was memorized by Muhammad (peace upon him) and then dictated to his Companions, handwritten down by scribes, who cross-checked it during his lifetime. Not one word of its 114 chapters (Suras), has been changed over the centuries, so that the Qur'an is in every detail the unique and miracukous text which was revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him) fourteen centuries ago.

Over a billion people from a vast backgrounds, races, nationalities and cultures across the globe – from the Britain to Nigeria – are united by their common islamic faith. Muslims abhor the concept of the division classes, racism, nationalism, tribalism, sexism, all mankind are equal according Allah, and discerning factor is piety, the greater the level of piety, the more that person is loved by Allah. The only recognised division is either a person is a Muslim or a Kaffir (disbeliever).

Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God; in the Angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelation were brought to mankind; in the Day of Judgement and individual accountability for actions; in God's complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Nuh, Ibraheem (Abraham), Ismaeel (Ishmael), Ishaaq (Isaac), Yacub (Jacob), Yusef (Joseph), Ayub (Job), Musa (Moses), Haroon (Aaron), Dawud (David), Suliman (Solomon), Iliaas (Elias), Unis (Jonah), Yahya (John the Baptist) and Isa (Jesus), peace be upon them.

But God's final message to a man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) through Angel Gibrail.

Simply by saying 'there is no god worthy of worship besides Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah'. By this declaration the believer announces his or her faith in all God's messengers, and the scriptures they brought. Post declaration of faith a person must acquire further knowledge about Islam and practise that which has been ordained by Allah (i.e. praying five times a day, fasting in the month of Ramadan, Paying Zakat [if one can afford to do so], performing Hajj [if one has the capability] etc.).

In the year 570 CE Muhammad (pbuh – peace be upon him_ was born in Makkah, his father died before his birth and mother died a few years into his infancy. He was raised by his grandfather then by his uncle. Before becoming a prophet he was known to be a person of excellent character, possessed the qualities of truthfulness, generosity, sincerity and kindness. During the events of any confusion and dispute fellow Makkans would call Muhammad (peace be upon him) to resolve the problems.

By nature Muhammad (peace be upon him) was man of religion, however he rejected the ways of his society and abstained from idol worship. At the age of forty while taking sanctuary in the cave of Hira for meditation, the angel of revelation Gibrail announced the prophet-hood to Muhammad (peace be upon him) and revealed a few verses of the Qur'an.

From the moment of prophet-hood till his death at the age of sixty three, Muhammad (peace be upon him) would call mankind to the worship of Allah and esteblished laws decreed by Allah.

Among the reasons for the rapid spread of Islam was the simplicity of its doctrine. Islam calls for faith on only One God worthy of worship (akkah). Islam is divine religion that provides solutions that are in harmony with man's nature and it calls man to adhere to good and shun all the forms of evil.
